Winners of the 18th Golden Thumb Awards Announced! “Tainan City Roadside Smart Parking System Build-Operate-Transfer” wins the Government Agency Award Gold Medal

The 18th Golden Thumb Awards for private participation in public construction projects have been announced! The “Tainan City Smart Roadside Parking Billing System Build–Operate–Transfer (BOT) Project” undertaken by the Tainan City Government won the gold medal in the Government Agency Award, allowing the city to add one more Golden Thumb Awards first prize to its collection.
This year’s Golden Thumb Awards underwent rigorous document selections, on-site inspections, and reassessments. There are a total of 18 project winners, including 7 in the Award for Private Team,8 in the Government Agency Award, 2 in the Consultant Team Award, and 1 in the public welfare category (see winners list for details). The award-winning projects cover public construction categories such as constructions for sewage sewer and transportation constructions, culture and education, tourism and recreation, as well as health and medical care. These categories are closely related to people’s lives. Constructing and operating public projects via public/private collaborations, private funding, innovation, and operational efficiency can accelerate the provision of high-quality public services and reduce the financial burden of the government, demonstrate the effectiveness of private participation in public construction, and establish a good benchmark for public/private sector partnerships. The Ministry of Finance indicated that the award ceremony will be held on November 13, 2020 (Friday) at the Taipei International Convention Center to publicly congratulate the winning teams. Subsequently, in-depth reports on these excellent participation projects will be reported by the media to promote successful experiences and inspire active participation by more outstanding government agencies, private organizations, and consulting agencies. The goal is to enable all sectors to gain a more comprehensive understanding of high-quality public constructions and services through participation promotion.
